Today, I fell in love...

I was sitting in the living room drinking a cup of coffee and watching the Today Show. All of the girls were in the playroom watching cartoons. Mason started to whimper a little and it quickly turned into a full blown cry. I poked my head around the corner and said “what’s wrong Maci Moo?” She looked up at me smiled, started bouncing up and down with excitement and then she reached for me for the first time! I picked her up and she laid her head on my chest, looked back up at me and smiled and then laid her head back down. I was done! That was the moment I fell in love with Mason. Of course, I have loved all my girls since before they were even born but I can clearly remember the moments that I really fell in love with each of them.

Kennedy was just a few weeks old. I was sitting on the couch in the living room, holding her in my arms. I was singing “you are my sunshine” to her. She looked at me and stared into my eyes for what felt like forever, and smiled. I will remember that moment for the rest of my life, it was heaven!

Hayden was a little older. I was lying on the sofa watching TV. Our dog, Daphne was curled up next to me and was bouncing around, climbing back and forth over me. After entertaining herself like this for a while, she crawled over to me, rubbed my cheek with her little hand (she still does this when she is sleepy), stuck her two fingers in her mouth and fell asleep. That was it!

I thought I knew what it meant to love a child. My niece had lived with me for a few years and I loved her so much. I could never imagine being capable of loving like I do today. Lately, I have been catching myself getting choked up when I realize how fast they are growing. Kennedy will be in Pre-K this year at the elementary school and she will be riding the school bus! I can’t believe it! I just want to be able to remember these moments forever.

Remebering...

This idea was inspired by a blog I read pretty regularly. Here's my story:

There is a guy Jeff that I met during my first year of high school. He was friends with everybody. He was one of those people that was always happy and joking around. In high school he dated and eventually married a girl Kelli who was just as happy and outgoing as he was. They had two kids and moved near Ocean City, Md. He was on dialysis for kidney problems. He died in a car accident a few months ago. Him and his younger brother were both in the car and they both passed away, Jon instantly and Jeff a week later. The funeral was one of the most heartbreaking experiences you can imagine. The pastor told a story that I will never forgot. I will sum it up for you (not in his exact words but close enough):

There is a church in the center of Crofton, the town we grew up in. One day Jeff went into the church and said to the pastor " all of my life I have heard the bells of this church ring daily. I noticed I haven't heard them recently and was wondering why". The pastor told him the bells needed to be repaired but were so old that the pieces weren't made anymore and they just didn't have enough money to replace them. "Is that it? Money is the only thing from keeping those bells from ringing?" Jeff said. He left the church and came back a week later with a handful of money and told the pastor that was just the first donation. Within three weeks he had raised enough money for the church to get the bells fixed. He had a son Jeff Jr. who is now five. They were outside playing one day and Jeff Jr. heard the church bells ringing and he said "my daddy makes those bells ring!" It was such a beautiful story, to think everytime his kids hear those bells they will be reminded of their father.

We live right by a church whose bells ring every hour and everytime I hear it I think of Jeff and his family. It reminds me to lighten up, to be grateful for what I have and when I think I am having a really shitty day it is not that bad. I think of him and his family everyday. He will be greatly missed by many, many people.

BLAH

How did my wonderful morning of three cups of vanilla coffee, singing with the girls and coloring pictures turn into an afternoon of feeling grumpy, wanting to do something fun but having no energy to actually get all my kids together to do anything and wanting my husband to come home early just to hug me? I wish I was able to push a mute button on my kids so that I didn't have to hear anymore of the arguing that is going on in the playroom, I wish my kids knew the meaning of "quiet time", I wish the pile of laundry by the basement door would walk downstairs and wash itself, I wish my headache would go away, I wish Mason could change her own diaper. It is 11:33 and in 27 minutes I am going into the kitchen and getting myself a beer! Maybe I will feel better then. Or maybe I will pour a second beer into my coffee cup, walk the kids to the park and let them run around while I sit on the bench and enjoy my "coffee!"

Tavia Sue, I Love You!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday Tavia. The world truly is a better place just because you're in it! I miss you. xoxo

Weight Loss Update...

This morning, I weighed 13.5 lbs! I guess my scale needs batteries. I have been eating well but not been running all week. I pulled a muscle in my neck. Wanna hear how I did it? Sitting at a bar playing one of those video game things. That's right, I'm old! I pulled a muscle while I was sitting still!

THE CREATURES AMONG US...

Has anyone ever seen Enchanted? Remember when the princess comes to the city and all the creatures flock to her? That's what it feels like at our house. We live in a pretty small town, but we live in the "downtown area" of that town. We live on the main street where all the big beautiful Victorian houses and shops and restaurants are. However, we live a couple hundred yards back off the street and it is like a whole different world.

First, we had deer. They have a baby now and it is soooo cute!

The girls love to watch the deer.

Then came the bats. This guy lives between the window and the storm window in the bathroom. He wakes up in the evening, crawls out the little crack, flies around for a few hours and comes back. We don't open this window, EVER! The picture is a little blurry because of the film of dirt on it. I AM NOT CLEANING IT!!! The girls like the bat too, it grosses me out

Now, we have owls. They are really cool. They first came a few weeks ago and now they come and go every few days. They sit in the trees and sometimes on our porch roof and they splash around in the puddles in the yard. Did you know owls hiss? They do, its a little scary but I like the owls, they can stay. Plus, I heard they eat bats!!!

ON THE BANDWAGON...

The girls are following my lead and getting their butts in motion.

Great work out sis!

Time To Get My Butt In Gear...

So, a few weeks ago while feeling particularly disgusting I thought about how much weight I have gained (and kept) since having kids. I had three kids in three years. When I first got pregnant I weighed 140lbs. Now I weigh 189lbs. THAT IS 49LBS IN 3 YEARS!!!!! Did you just throw up in your mouth? I did. So, I bought a treadmill super cheap-thanks to a nice co-worker and started eating better and running. I HATE RUNNING! Anyway, in 3 weeks I lost 9 lbs. Then, we went to OC, ate alot drank, a whole lot and I gained a few back. So, now I am back to 186lbs. They say it is healthy to lose 1-2lbs a week so I figure to get down to 145lbs it should take about 20ish weeks, depending on how much beer I drink that week. I decided to document it on here so when I get lazy everyone can give me shit. Anyone care to join me?
